Leopard on LiPo

Leopard 2A5 DK 1/16 tankPosted by xilsoe Sep 18, 2014 20:23:47
After a few modifications my Leopard is now capable of running on the same LiPo battery that I use for the UNIMOG. I did some research on the WEB before using a LiPo in the Leopard. The conroller should be fine and the cut-off should happen long before the battery is depleted, so it should be safe for both tank and battery.

I did a brief run after I made the needed mods. The tank runs much better than it did on that old 1400mAh NiCd battery.

One thing though: I'll have to figure out a new way of mounting the camera. There isn't room for the current camera mount below the commander's hatch.

A few pictures:

A modification I have been wanting to do for a long time. Nice to finally have it done smiley

One day in April a friend and I decided to visit rctruckteam.dk and try driving in their nice model landscape. I brought my Leopard and I put a camera on top of it. Here is the result:

Tool set for the Leopard

Leopard 2A5 DK 1/16 tankPosted by xilsoe Mar 03, 2014 20:28:26
I realize it has been some time since my last update. I am afraid not much has happened. I can however report a little progress now: I have made the tool set from AFV. Furthermore I have made some of the braces that goes on the connector box on top of the Leopard. Here are some pictures:

Knowing the Danish army right the tools should be all green. I didn't paint them yet as I wanted to show the tools before paint. I also have the tools mounting kit from AFV. I didn't start installing that yet though.

Leopard M96 carabine box

Leopard 2A5 DK 1/16 tankPosted by xilsoe Dec 20, 2013 17:15:32
I have been working on the M96 carabine box on the turret top of the Leopard. I believe it is almost complete. It still needs the anti skid on top and it needs to be mounted. The anti skid on top will be made of grid 240 sanding paper. It is shown in one of the pictures below.

The handle on the box top is made of a 1mm brass rod and mounted in two small pieces of 1.5mm brass tube with 0.2mm walls.

Here are some pictures:

Leopard carabine box and EMES15 telescope

Leopard 2A5 DK 1/16 tankPosted by xilsoe Dec 11, 2013 17:28:19
I have been making further progress on the Leopard. I have removed the bottom of the EMES15 telescope. This is to make it possible to add an FPV camera at a later point. Then I have started working on the M96 carabine box that is located behind the EMES15 telescope.

The carabine box is designed for containing two M96 carabines. M96 is the Danish army name for the Colt Diemaco C8A1 carabine.

Leopard turret top details

Leopard 2A5 DK 1/16 tankPosted by xilsoe Dec 03, 2013 20:44:18
I know it doesn't look of much, but it has taken some time to get to this point. I have started adding details that are specific to the Leopard 2 A5 DK to the turret top. Here are a few pictures.

Leopard EMES15 Telescope

Leopard 2A5 DK 1/16 tankPosted by xilsoe Sep 11, 2013 20:38:17
I have started putting the EMES15 telescope together. As I am thinking of mounting an FPV (First Person View) camera inside the telescope I decided to replace the semi transparent plastic window supplied in the kit. Instead I have bought some microscope slides and cut one apart with a glass cutting diamond. That gave me two pieces of glass that I have fixed on the back of part K39 with some epoxy. The result can be seen in the pictures below.

Hopefully this glass will give me a good picture quality if and when I make FPV in my tank. The telescope is not fixed in place, just put in place in the pictures.

Side skirts on the Leopard

Leopard 2A5 DK 1/16 tankPosted by xilsoe Aug 31, 2013 17:56:48
Not much progress since last post. As can be seen in the pictures below I have painted the rear hatches. Furthermore I have replaced the handles on the side skirts with a set of metal handles. I fixed the handles with epoxy as that sticks quite well to both metal and plastics.

Then I have been painting the side skirts and some of the turret side armor as can be seen in the pictures below.

I have lots of plans on what to do next to this tank. At this point I would however like to make some progress on the PT-15 torpedo boatsmiley
