RC Helicopter flying, RC Cars and RC boating

Made for other people and me to track what I am doing when with my remote controlled units. It started out with helicopters. Hence the name.

If only one of my units is of interest, this unit can be clicked on the right and only posts regarding that unit shows up.

New rudder servo installation in Slo-mo

Billing Boats - Slo-mo-shun IVPosted by xilsoe Nov 19, 2011 15:42:26
I finally got to make the new servo installation in my Slo-mo-tion IV. I made it in a way so it is rather easy to remove the servo if needed. I guess this is based on experience. I have learned that these kind of things should be accessible and replaceable for easy maintenance.

Here are some pictures of the servo installation:

I tried installing a 1,5mm brass rod to control the rudder. It seems that turning left will be OK, whereas turning right isn't OK. The rudder installation will block the servo when turning right.

I also noticed that the new propeller will be further back and may interfere with the rudder. For this reason I ordered a new rudder. The new rudder has water pick-up for cooling. At first I won't be using that. If it proves that the current pick-up won't work, I'll look into using the water pick-up in the rudder instead.

To make a better weight distribution I have decided that the ESC will be placed in front of the motor. I haven't started looking into that yet, but I know I'll need to remove the motor to get the ESC in that position.
