Because of the problems I have been having with the RC equipment in my TAMIYA PT-15, I decided to get a new transmitter. My choice is a Futaba T14SG. It comes with an R7008SB receiver. I won't need that much channels for the PT-15, so I'll get an R7003SB receiver.
Furthermore the programming options on the new transmitter allows me to remove the Arduino from the boat, which makes everything simpler and gives less electronics and weight in the boat. Furthermore this RC equipment comes with telemetry, so I can use that to monitor the battery in the boat so I know when to come to shore. All good
Generally I like my new transmitter. It seems to be capable of doing everything I want from it. The only thing I don't like is this menu control system. I don't find it intuitive. I don't know where they found the inspiration? Perhaps an iPod? It may work well on an iPod, but that doesn't mean it works well for this advanced menu structure. I would have preferred a 5 way button. I believe they could have done all with that in a more easily understandable way.
I have started re-organizing the electronics in the PT-15. Expect more news on the PT-15 in the not too distant future.
